Who is every black girl who can’t seem to catch a break and find the love of her life in a place filled with driven, fine black men? She is Kelly Brown. And her story is nothing new. It’s just untold. The Men I Let Define Love comically replays defining short stories about the men Kelly meets at Davis University and the men she’s known all along - the men who teach her a thing or two about love and life.
It’s her last semester at Davis, an HBCU, and Kelly is looking for love in the most likely place. Or so she thought. It proves to be much more than she bargained for after being dumped by the last good guy on campus. For someone who appears to have it all together, she’s quite a mess in the male department. And like most women, she doesn’t know who to blame: herself or the men? She’s attempting to do what some see as the impossible. She’s attempting to find a man without lowering her standards or sacrificing her wants. Kelly’s relationship with her suitors, brother, best friend, professor, friend’s boyfriend, and father all help bring her to womanhood. The Men I Let Define Love is Kelly’s love story. She just thought there’d be more romance.
Pen & Pad Publishing was founded in 2010 by journalist Jasmin Melvin Hudson to give voice to the amazing storytellers and writers she found herself in the company of but who had few outlets to successfully get their literary works turned into published novels. Pen & Pad Publishing kicked off 2017 with a major re-branding, complete with a revamped logo and website overhaul. The company also expanded its repertoire into consulting and an array of services for self-publishing authors.
